Vancouver Island Pagan Pride welcomes GIFTS (Global Initiatives Fair Trade Store)!

GIFTS - Global Initiatives Fair Trade StorePart of the Fair Trade network, G.I.F.T.S. sells goods from producers around the world guaranteeing them a fair share of the value of their work.

GIFTS Fair Trade is a small business that brings fair trade products from the developing world and offers them for sale at markets on Vancouver Island.  In doing so, we help artisans find an audience for their wares and ensure they get a fair price for their products.

Diane and Nick Cacciato, the owners of GIFTS – Global Initiatives Fair Trade Store, have traveled extensively, and as long-time educators, are both committed to the principles of social justice.  They have been involved with GIFTS for several years and when the opportunity to buy the business came up, they jumped at the chance to keep GIFTS alive and well in the Cowichan Valley.

    Bat Fish Studio

Vancouver Island Pagan Pride welcomes back Bat-Fish Studio – Masters of Creative Alchemy!

Bat Fish StudioAs an Eco- Designer I have a line of clothing & accessories that are made from up-cycled & reclaimed textiles & materials. I use repurposed & unconventional components to create unique wearable art.

After a career as a corporate designer it became more & more important to me to create a business model that would include using materials that are reclaimed, recycled & re-purposed. Concerned about the waste that is produced everyday by the fashion & clothing industry, I wanted to do something to change that.

So I started Bat-Fish Studio. I focus on using waste as a resource, claiming post consumer materials often bound for landfills.

From bicycle inner tubes, industrial rubber, upholstery samples, fabric dead stock, seat belts, leather & textile off cuts, l use these components as a creative starting point. To me sustainable design has become a way of life, by designing a line of reclaimed clothing & accessories, I create products that become examples of innovative thinking.

I incorporate a variety of effects to the clothing & products to give richer dimension to the finished product such as silk screening & fabric manipulation. I’m constantly striving to come up with new & creative ideas that use unconventional materials in a original & inventive way, resulting in unique wearable art.

  • Vendor Highlight: SuzannArt

Vancouver Island Pagan Pride welcomes SuzannArt!

I’m a fine art teacher from Quebec. I’ve always be drawn to art as far as I remember. suzannartI paint on canvas, and on many objects made of fabric and glass. My style ranges from very realistic to abstract, incorporating fairies and symbols like sacred geometry (flower of life, Sri yantra…), elvish writing and so on. In every painting, my goal is to portray the light that surround us, whether it is it’s reflection on a car, in the eyes of someone or the rays of colors that characterize emotions, persons, places… Light can also transform the most ordinary object into a stunning painting. Nature is the best at playing with colors and my paintings are a tribute to the beauty that surrounds us. I make clothes by recycling and modifying second hand ones. I also create jewelry with stones and crystals (rings earrings, bracelets, anklets) and dreamcatchers.

”I think people should trust more their instincts when it comes to art, travel in the paintings and let themselves go with the flow of any emotions that rises within them.”
