The volunteers in charge of organizing Vancouver Island Pagan Pride Day have been watching the unfolding of the pandemic with interest and have held off on making a decision about this year’s Pagan Pride event until now.
After much meditation, we have decided against holding Vancouver Island Pagan Pride in 2020. The health and safety of our community members is too important to risk.
We considered holding a virtual event and decided against it for a number of reasons:
- Pagan Pride Day has always been focused on making in-person connections, education and discovering local organizations, vendors and artisans.
- Our vendors are some of our biggest supporters and revenue from a virtual event does not match revenue from an in person event.
- We recognize that many people are experiencing screen fatigue, including us!
- Several of our organizers have been busy creating and hosting virtual rituals, social conversations, and workshops to maintain continuity for their communities, and do not have the capacity to organize another multifaceted online event.
It is our sincere hope that we will be able to meet in person again next year when we move Vancouver Island Pagan Pride to Duncan. Please stay tuned for announcements on date and location in the new year.
We encourage you to join in any of the events and rituals happening in the meantime! The Aquarian Tabernacle Church of Canada and Circle of the Sacred Muse are still hosting regular Full Moon rituals, Sabbat Celebrations, and Coffee Cauldrons. You can join their Facebook group here to receive invites to the events, and check the Events tab of the Vancouver Island Pagan Pride Facebook Page regularly! Vancouver Island Druids and The Hedgewitch Collective also have groups or pages on Facebook, and have been hosting online events, so make sure you check them out, too!
We are so disappointed to not be able to share our time and energy with you. In keeping with the Pagan Pride mission of social responsibility, we ask you to remember to Share the Harvest by donating to your local food bank and environmental organizations. We look forward to seeing you next year.
